Speakers

There is business meeting with a board meeting at 11:00AM at the Sheraton Four Points this week.  We will hear comments on the proposed changes to our Club Constitution and Bylaws, talk about Building our Brand, hear nominations for Executive Board positions, and hear committee reports.

Our speaker next week is our new club member is Nyama Y. Marsh. Nyama is the newly appointed Library Director of the Whitefish Bay Public Library. Nyama  evaluates library services and makes recommendations for improvements; works with the Library Board, elected officials, school officials, and civic organizations when needed to develop programs and resolve problems.

Last week your speaker was Dave J. Drent, Chief Executive of the Milwaukee War Memorial Center. David has been employed by the War Memorial Center a non-profit 501c3 corporation for over 42 years.  He has held the position of Executive Director since 1996, before that David served as Operations Manager, responsible for the day to day activities at the Center.  David’s passion for honoring our veterans and active military goes beyond the War Memorial as he serves as a member of the USO of WI and Honoring Our Military boards.  David is also a Past President of the Downtown Milwaukee Kiwanis Club.  David is a lifelong resident of Milwaukee, he and his wife Debbie are proud parents of two adult sons.

Future Speakers Needed

Please mail or call Cary Silverstein with suggestions for future speakers for the 2015 Rotary Year. We have two openings for February 2015.

Service Above Self

Christine A. Specht, the President & CEO of Cousins Subs has agreed to speak at Service Above Self luncheon in April 2015 at the Sheraton Four Points. Christine spoke to our club in 2013 and we are excited that she has accepted our invitation. The Silverstein’s have agreed to to be sponsors again this year.

Sixty Year Anniversary

As we approach our sixty year anniversary in March of 2015 we will continue to feature our History Tidbits each week. We will be discussing the formation of a 60th Anniversary Committee at our board meeting. John German has agreed to be our master of ceremonies for this event and has a number of the club’s past presidents joining the committee.

History Tidbits 1982-1983

We shifted to this presidency because we had no information from the presidents who served until 1982. The club president in 1982 – 1983 was Bob Huber. Under Bob’s leadership began its close relationship with the St. Francis Children’s Center. Sister Joann Marie and Eli Tash were the co-founders of the Center. The club organized and executed a giant rummage sale which was supported by over one hundred vendors. The sale was featured on Channel 6 with Tom Hooper doing an interview with Bob Huber. Twenty-five years later we still had a relationship with the St. Francis Children’s Center.

Pancake Breakfast

This year’s pancake breakfast will be on Dec 7th at the Brown Deer High School field house. Brian Guerin is asking for volunteers to assist in serving the food, maintaining the tables, getting sponsors and selling tickets. Before you know it we will be serving pancakes to smiling faces at the Brown Deer field house. Who will be the new Santa in the chair? Ask Brain.
