TREES FOR PARKS
Date line: Milwaukee North Shore, Mar\y 11, 2026. The Rotary Club of Milwaukee North Shore took part in planting six trees at the Brown Deer Village Pond Park to help increase shade and enhance the Park next to the Village Hall. Trees native to Wisconsin were selected. Six members of the Rotary Club of Milwaukee North Shore, and 20 other volunteers, including two children, planting the trees.
The trees are a part of the Village of Brown Deer’s efforts to improve the appearance and appeal of the park. The trees will benefit the users of the parks by eventually providing shade and places to relax, picnic and enjoy the nearby swimming facility. Birds, squirrels, insects and other wildlife will benefit from a natural habitat.
From the Arbor Day Foundation: “planting a tree is one of the easiest and most powerful things you can do to have a positive impact on the environment? It's true. Trees clean the air, prevent rainwater runoff, help you save energy and even combat global warming.” “Trees can live hundreds of years, so when you plant one, you're giving a gift to your children and grandchildren. It's a symbol of your commitment to the environment and the beauty of the world around you that will live on far beyond your own lifetime.”
QUOTES FROM PARTICIPANTS
“The trees look lovely and are in a prominent spot” William Brown
“This past Monday (May 11, 2026) our Milwaukee North Shore Rotary club had the opportunity to donate six eastern redbud trees to the village of Brown Deer. Thanks to the efforts of our Rotarian, Mark Smith, our club obtained a Rotary district grant that allowed us to donate these to the village. In addition to donating and planting the trees we provided a raffle in which five local families were awarded a tree in honor of Arbor Day. The event also provided a brief education on proper tree planting by Watchtel Tree Service!
Definitely a great day supporting the community.” Brian Geurin
"Rotary is built on service above self, and this tree planting project is a perfect example of what can happen when community partners come together with a shared vision. We’re proud to partner with the Village of Brown Deer to help enhance a space that is enjoyed by so many residents and families. These trees will provide beauty, shade, and environmental benefits for years to come, while serving as a lasting reminder of the impact we can make together through service and stewardship." Krista Bold
"I was honored to be part of Brown Deer’s Arbor Day, celebration with the planting of several trees on behalf of the rotary. It’s wonderful how we can make a positive impact on the environment and on the community with an activity like this and a donation to the community like this. I look forward to doing more of these in the future with the rotary." Brian Eggers
